CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Union University men's golf team posted an 11th place finish at the University of West Georgia's Matt Dyas Invitational. The 3-round event was shortened to two round due to rain and was played at Oak Mountain Golf Club. It featured 15 teams and 79 golfers.Â
Union posted a total scored of 604 (307, 297), finishing just 22 shots back of first place. Clayton State won the event with a 582 (290, 292). Union's score in Tuesday's round 297 was the seventh best round of the second round. Young Harris finished second, Lee and North Georgia tied for third, Newberry College fifth, North Alabama sixth, Christian Brothers seventh, Mississippi College eighths, West Georgia ninth, and King University 10th. Union finished ahead of West Alabama in 12th, Tusculum College 13th, Lewis University 14th, and Albany State 15th.Â
Union's top finisher was Braxton Rider in a tie for 25th place. Rider fired a two round score of 148 (75, 73). Samuel Jones of West Georgia won the event with a 139 (70, 69). Other Union finishers included Kyle Souleyrette T45 (74, 77-151), Jordan Botwinick T47 (81, 71-152), Jon Sain T51 (77, 76-153) and Reagan Oliver 75th (82, 84-166).Â
This marked the final golf tournament of the fall season for the Union men. Up next will be the Spring Hill Badger Classic, February 26-27, 2018 in Mobile, Ala.Â
