JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team (10-36, 3-24 GSC) fell to the Lee University Flames (21-22-1, 7-18-1 GSC) all three games of the Gulf South Conference series.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped on top during the first game of the Saturday double-header.
Hailey Cummings hit a two RBI single to left field to take a 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Coming back in the second inning,
Emily Bennett singled to left center scoring
Marley Dyess to extend the lead to 3-0. Lee came back to score five runs in the top of the third inning, three unearned, to take a 5-3 lead. Union came back to tie the game 5-5 in the bottom half of the inning off an RBI single from
Whitney Christian and an RBI double by
LaDesha Nelson. The game remained tied until the Flames scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take an 8-5 lead. The Lady Bulldogs came back to tie the game eight-all to take the game to the ninth inning. Lee was able to push pass one run to set the final at 9-8.

Emily Bennett led Union going 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and one run scored.
Reagan Schrader,
Hailey Cummings,
Marley Dyess, and
LaDesha Nelson each added a hit in the game. Dyess led with two runs scored.

The Flames took down the Lady Bulldogs 11-0 by mercy rule in the second game of the day.
Haley Barnette and
Summer Cross had the only hits of the game for Union. The Lady Bulldogs used three pitchers in the contest, giving up 14 hits combined and six walks.

Facing mercy rule in the series finale, the Lady Bulldogs were down 13-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning when they came back to score six runs to cut Lee's lead to 13-10. Union was able to hold the Flames scoreless the rest of the game, but they were unable to push across any runs to set the final at 13-10. Of the 13 runs given up by the Lady Bulldogs, only nine were earned.

Haley Barnette went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and a run scored to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
Emily Bennett highlighted the third inning with an inside-the-park homer, she went 2-for-5 in the game with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Union will travel to No. 4 University of North Alabama to take on the Lions in a GSC conference series. The Lady Bulldogs and Lions will face off in a double-header Saturday, April 16 starting at 2 p.m. and a single game Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
