FLORENCE, Ala. – The Union University softball team dropped three games at No. 5 University of North Alabama in a double-header Saturday, April 16 and single game Sunday. The Lady Bulldogs fell to 10-39 on the season and 3-27 in Gulf South Conference competition. UNA improved to 26-3 in league play to clinch the GSC Regular Season Championship.
In the first game, Union managed just two hits in the game. Both hits came in the top of the fifth inning when
Hailey Cummings singled through the left side, and later in the inning
Whitney Christian singled to left field. The Lady Bulldogs were unable to push across any runs in the game setting the final 11-0 by way of mercy rule.
The Lions stayed hot in the second game of the day scoring nine runs on 13 hits. Raven Cole shut down Union getting the five inning no-hitter, allowing four walks in the game. The final score of the game was 9-0 in UNA's favor.
In the final game of the series, the Lady Bulldogs fell 10-0.
Reagan Schrader got the lone hit for Union, a single to left center in the top of the first inning.
Madison Zablocki got her first start of the season going three innings giving up eight runs on six hits.
Union will return home for their final GSC series of the season. The Lady Bulldogs will face off against the University of Alabama Huntsville with a single game Friday, April 22 starting at 5 p.m. and double-header Saturday starting at 1 p.m. Union will honor senior's
Whitney Christian,
Summer Cross, and
Reagan Schrader in Senior Day festivities on Saturday.
