JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University Lady Bulldog softball team got a double-header sweep of in-town rivals, Lane College. Union took the first game 10-0, and won the second game 15-1. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 10-30 on the season; while Lane dropped to 14-10.
Union's bats were hot to start the first game. The Lady Bulldogs scored in every inning of the game. Union put up four runs in the first, two in the second, three in the third, and one in the fouth.
Haley Barnette and
Hailey Cummings both went 3-for-3 at the plate, and
Reagan Schrader and
Emily Bennett went 2-for-3 to help the Lady Bulldogs to the win. Cumming led Union on the mound throwing all five innings, giving up zero runs on five hits.
The hot hitting continued for the Lady Bulldogs in the second game. Union scored one run in the first, and Lane was able to tie the game, 1-1, in the third inning when BreeAnna Stevens singled with the bases loaded. In the bottom half of the third inning, the Lady Bulldogs bats exploded with 12 runs. Union sent 17 batters to the plate in the inning. Schrader highlighted the inning blasting a three-run homerun over the fence. Barnette capped things off with a two-run homer to left center to set the final at 15-1.
Haley Barnette had another perfect game, going 4-for-4, with three RBIs and three runs scored. Five other Lady Bulldogs added two hits each.
Paige Taylor got the five inning win giving up one run on four hits.
Union will be on the road Wednesday, March 30 for another non-conference double-header against Bethel University starting at 2:00 p.m.
