JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team dropped all three games of the Gulf South Conference against the University of West Florida Argonauts. Union fell to 10-33 on the season and 3-21 in league play; while, UWF improved to 16-8 in GSC play and 29-11 on the season.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped on top with four runs in the first inning of the first game.
Reagan Schrader doubled to score
Emily Bennett who reached on a single to lead off the game. In the next at-bat,
Haley Barnette smacked a double to right center to score Schrader.
Whitney Christian came up later in the first inning to get a two RBI single to set the Union lead at 4-0. West Florida was able to quiet the Lady Bulldog bats for the rest of the game. UWF managed to score two runs in the second, one run in the third, four runs in the fourth, and five runs in the fifth to end the game by mercy rule.Â
Haley Barnette led Union at the plate going 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI.
Whitney Christian went 1-for-3 leading the Lady Bulldogs with two RBIs.Â
The Argonauts kept their bats hot in the second game of the Saturday double header, scoring five runs in the first inning. Union put themselves back in the game, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the UWF lead to 5-3. West Florida extended their lead in the top of the second to 8-3. Bennett scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second after leading off the inning with a triple. The Argonauts scored two more runs in the third and one in the fourth to take a 11-4 lead. Barnette continued to shine at the plate blasting a homer to left center to score Bennett. The Lady Bulldogs were able to hold UWF scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, and added a run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the West Florida lead to 11-7. After scoring four runs in the sixth inning, and holding Union scoreless in the bottom half of the inning, the Argonauts ended the game by mercy rule 15-7.

Whitney Christian both went 2-for-3 in the game.
In the single game on Sunday, West Florida's Kalyn Chapman kept the Union bats quiet keeping a no-hitter until the sixth inning. Bennett roped a one out triple down the right field line in hopes of getting things going for the Lady Bulldogs. Down 7-0, Union was unable to score Bennett and failed to score in the bottom part of the seventh to set the final at 7-0.Â
Union will host Lee University in a conference match-up with a double-header Saturday, April 9 starting at 1:00 p.m. and single game Sunday, April 10 starting at 1:00 p.m.
