JACKSON, Tennessee- The Union University softball team dropped a pair of heartbreakers Monday afternoon against Bethel 4-3 and 11-9. The Lady Bulldogs move to 5-17 on the season.
The Lady Bulldogs got on the board fin the bottom of the first inning when
Emily Bennett came in to score on a ground out from
Rachel Ridolfi to give Union the early 1-0 lead.
Bethel rallied in the top of the third frame when Kayla Guthrie homered to right center to tie the game at 1-1. The Wildcats added another run in the inning Alex Turner scored on an error on a groundball to the pitcher to give Bethel the lead.
The Lady Bulldogs retook the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI single from

The Wildcats made another comeback in the next half inning taking advantage of two Union errors on the same play. They tied the game on an RBI sacrifice fly from Kayla Guthrie scoring Iesha Kizer from third. On the throw home from the outfield, the ball got by the catcher allowing Emmi Thurmond to head to third, the throw to third then got away form Schader at third giving Thurmond an opportunity to score the winning run and set the final score at 4-3.
Paige Taylor started the game for Union tossing a complete game giving up three earned runs on seven hits while striking out two batters earning the loss.
Reagan Schrader led Union at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
LaDesha Nelson also helped the Union cause going 1-for-3 with a run and RBI.
In the second game of the double header, the Lady Bulldogs came out swinging scoring the first run of the game with
Emily Bennett coming in on a fielder's choice from
Rachel Ridolfi. The Lady Bulldogs put a second run on the board on an RBI single to left off the bat of
Reagan Schrader to give Union the 2-0 lead.
Bethel was quick to answer in the next half inning scoring five unearned runs on only two hits and two Union errors to take the 5-2 lead.

Anna Morris. They took the lead on the following at-bat when
Madison Tennyson drove home Schrader on a single and came around to score on an error by Bethel to take the 6-5 lead.
Bethel tied the game up in the top of the fourth on a ground out that scored Kayla Guthrie.
Union then put up another three spot in the fifth with a homer from Schrader, followed by Tennyson scoring on a wild pitch and
LaDesha Nelson scoring on a wild pitch for the 9-6 lead going to the sixth.
The Lady Bulldogs then blew the 3 run lead in the top of the seventh with Bethel scoring five runs on four hits, including a three RBI triple, and two Union errors to take the 11-9 lead. The Lady Bulldogs got two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh trying to rally for a comeback win, but fell short.
Reagan Schrader led the offense for Union going 3-for-3 with a homerun, double, three RBI's and two runs scored.
Madison Tennyson also had a day at the plate going 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI.
Hailey Cummings started the game going 6.0 innings giving up seven runs, only three earned, with three strikeouts.
Paige Taylor came in to the game in the seventh and gave up four runs on three hits to close the ballgame out.
Union returns to Gulf South Conference play on Saturday with a double header against Delta State at 1:00 p.m. and single game Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Fesmire Field in Jackson.
