MEMPHIS, Tennessee- The Union University baseball team team took both games of a Gulf South Conference double header at Christian Brothers 3-0 and 3-2 Saturday afternoon to improve their record to 4-1 in conference play.
In the first game of the afternoon, neither team was able to get on the board in the scheduled nine innings of play and went to the tenth inning tied at 0-0. In the top of the tenth Union got
Zach Phillips and
Zach Wylie on base with walks to lead off the inning and a sacrifice bunt from the pinch hitter moved them into scoring position at second and third. After an intentional walk,
Austin Orr singled up the middle to drive home the first run of the game for either team with Phillips coming in to score.
Zach Wylie tried to score as well on the play but was thrown out at home for the second out of the inning.
Tyler Mauzy came to the plate two batters later and ripped an RBI double down the left field line to put two more runs on the board before the inning was ended on the next at-bat.
Reliever
Joe Hudson was able to come out and strike out three straight batters in the bottom half of the tenth after giving up a leadoff single to seal the Union win.
Marty Coursey started on the mound in the game going 8.1 scoreless innings giving up eight hits but finding a way to avoid any damage.
At the plate
Austin Orr was the only Bulldog player to record multiple hits going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Dylan Moore also recorded hits in the first game of the double header.
The second game of the afternoon it was Christian Brothers who got on the board first scoring two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth on two errors by the Union defense.
Union answered back in the top half of the sixth with
Mason Castile leading things off with a single to left who was followed up by
Bailey Holbrook with a double down the left field line. Castile scored on the next play, a groundout to second from
Tyler Mauzy. Two batters later
Dylan Moore came through with an RBI single scoring
Brady Cook to tie the game at 2-2.
The Bulldogs struck again in the top of the seventh when
Nolen Milton homered to left to give the Union the 3-2 advantage.
After earning the win in the first game of the season,
Joe Hudson came out of the pen in the bottom half of the seventh getting the final three outs to give Union the win and his third save of the season.
Teddy Christie started the game for Union tossing 6.0 innings giving up only two unearned runs on four hits while striking out nine batters for his second win of the season.
Union will aim for their first GSC series sweep with a singe game against Christian Brothers on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm. The Bulldogs will return home next weekend with another GSC series hosting the Statesmen from Delta State on Saturday and Sunday.
