Before Union
Roper transferred to Union from the University of Illinois where he played baseball for two seasons. He helped lead his team to the Big Ten Conference and Champaign Regional Tournament titles in 2015. In 2014, he was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team and was selected once as the conferece freshman of the week. Roper's Illinois team won 27 straight games in 2015. Roper prepped at Harrisburg High School where he played baseball, football and basketball for four years each. He helped lead his basketball team to the 2013 2A Illinois State title. In baseball, Roper was named all-conference four times, all-south four times, all-state twice and was named the 2013 Illinois Gatorade Pitcher of the Year. In football, he was named all-conference three times. HIs basketball team finished 33-1 with their only loss coming to Dyer County High School, just up the road from Union in west Tennessee. His baseball team posted 40 wins in a row during the 2010 season. Roper set school record with 17 strikeouts in a game, no-hitters with two, perfect games with one and scoreless innings streak at 54 innings. Offensively, Roper set a school record with 11 homeruns in a season. Off the field, Roper was in the honor roll all four years, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honors Society and was named an Illinois State Scholar.

Born September 5...son of Jeff and Diana Roper...majoring in teaching and learning (K-6) as he works to become an elementary teacher.
