Before Union
Cook prepped at Clarksville (Tenn.) High School where he played four seasons of baseball. He was named the District 10AAA Player of the Year as a senior. Cook added Leaf-Chronical Area MVP Award, participated in the AAA Tennessee Senior All-Star Baseball Classic, named to the Tennessee Baseball Report All-2-Way Team, Tennessee Baseball Report Region Five All-Region Team, and team MVP as a senior. He hit .438 with 46 runs, 21 singles, 14 doubles, three triples, one home run, and 21 stolen bases as a senior.  He was also 5-0 on the mound. As a junior, he was named Leaf-Chronicle All-Area Team, TBCA Region 5/6 Team, TBCA Border War Team. Off the field, Cook was named to the CMCEA Education Foundation All A Acadmic Honor Roll Team three times, was a Tennessee Scholar, a member of the National Honors Society, graduated with highest honors, earned the Principal's Leadership Award, and was a student council representative.
