Union men struggling from the field in loss at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala.- The Union University men's basketball team fell 63-47 at the University of West Alabama Thursday night. Union dropped to 9-2 on the season and 3-2 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama improved to 5-5 overall and 2-3 in league play. This was the second straight loss for Union after opening the season with nine straight wins. 

Union again struggled out of the gate. Union was down 14-4 early and 22-10 after nine minutes of play. Two games ago, Union trailed 11-0 to start the game before rallying to win at Mississippi College. Union was again down 7-0 at Delta State before falling by two points.

Against West Alabama, Union again rallied to get as close as two points just prior to the end of the half, before going down 31-26 at the break. The second half was controlled by West Alabama as the Tigers pushed their lead quickly to double figures. Union cut their deficit to four points with 13:08 left but West Alabama got it back to double figures soon after. The Tigers led by as many as 19 points in the game, 61-42 with three minutes left. 

In the game, Union shoot just 27 percent from the field, including just 23 percent (5-22) from long range. Union was led by Marterrace Brock with 13 points and Ashanti Day with 11 points. Union shot 71 percent (12-17) from the free throw line. 

West Alabama was led by Acie Vance with 25 points and Jake Jobling with 11 points. The Tigers shot 45 percent from the field, 50 percent (11-22) from 3-point range and 86 percent (6-7) from the free throw line.
