Union men stay undefeated with 84-53 win over Truman State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Union University men's basketball team posted an 84-53 win over Truman State (Mo.) University Friday in the Drury Thanksgiving Classic. Union improved to 5-0 on the season, while Truman State dropped to 3-2 overall. Union is ranked No. 21 in the D2SIDA Media Poll.
 
Marterrace Brock missed his career high at Union by one point, but still poured in 30 points to lead all scorers in the game. Brock was 13-of-16 from the field, while making 1-of-1 from the 3-point line and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
 
Union scored seven of the first nine points of the game to lead 7-2 after the first 2:18 of play. Truman State rallied back to lead 8-7 as the game started to go back and forth for the next 10 minutes. Union trailed by as many as five points in the first half twice, 20-15 and again 22-17 with 7:21 left in the half. Union then responded with a 7-0 run to regain the lead for good. Union led 32-29 at the half.
 
In the second half, it was all Union. Union quickly pushed the lead to double figures, 40-29 after the first 4:30 of the second half. Union outscored Truman State 52-24 in the second half. Union's biggest lead was game was 33 points, 84-51 in the final minute.
 
In addition to Brock's big game, Union's Ashanti Day added a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Day just recently passed the 500 career rebound milestone and now has 521 boards in his career. KC Goodwin and Roy Bullock each added 10 points, while Serigne Mboup led added 11 rebounds. Union shot 52 percent from the field, 29 percent (6-21) from 3-point range and 89 percent (8-9) from the free throw line.
 
Truman State was led by Connor Erickson with 17 points, while Andrew Vander Zwaag added 10 points. The Truman State Bulldogs shot 37 percent from the field, 11 percent (3-28) from long range and 73 percent (8-11) from the free throw line.
 
Up next for Union will be the final game in the Drury Thanksgiving Classic when Union plays the host and No. 5 ranked Drury Panthers at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
