Union men shoot past Spring Hill

MOBILE, Ala. – The Union University men's basketball team posted a second straight win to open the 2015-16 season with an 82-67 victory at Spring Hill College. Union improved to 2-0 , while Spring Hill dropped to 0-2 on the season.
 
Union fired 59 percent (10-17) from 3-point range in the game, while making 44 percent of their shots from the field and 76 percent of their free throws.
 
All eight players that played in the game for Union scored, including five in double figures. Jordan Montgomery led the way with 19 points including 4-of-5 from long range. Marterrace Brock scored 15 points, KC Goodwin and Roy Bullock added 13 points and Ashanti Day scored 10 points.
 
The two teams swapped baskets in the early going with Spring Hill taking their final lead of the game at 6-5. Union took the lead on the next possession on one of Montgomery's 3-pointers. The game was tied a final time at 12-12 with 13:07 left in the half. Union then took control of the game, increasing their lead to as many as 20 points, 49-29, in the first half. Union led 49-33 at the half.
 
In the second half, Union led by as many as 28 points on a couple of occasions, with including 76-48 with 7:05 remaining. Union cruised down the stretch to win 82-67.
 
Spring Hill was led by James Clark with 16 points, the only Badger in double figures. Spring Hill shot 46 percent from the field, 43 percent (6-14) from long range and 69 percent (9-13) from the free throw line.
 
Up next for Union will be their home opener Tuesday, November 17 at 7 p.m. versus Central Baptist (Ark.).
