Box Score 2 JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team suffered a pair of losses to No. 5 Southern Arkansas University Tuesday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Southern Arkansas earned the sweep, winning 9-0 in the first game and then 5-0 in game two. Union dropped to 4-8 on the season, while Southern Arkansas improved to 13-3 overall.
In the first game, Southern Arkansas scored a run in the second inning to lead 1-0, but both teams played close for the first three innings. Union left the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, and Southern Arkansas turned that momentum swing into three runs in the top of the fourth. The Muleriders added five runs in the fifth inning to put the game away.
Chaz Wilson (1-1) took the loss for Union, allowing nine runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Will Embry tossed three innings of scoreless relief, striking out two batters. Strother (1-0) earned the win for Southern Arkansas, working five innings with one strikeout and four hits allowed.
Caleb Warnimont led Union with a 2-for-2 date at the plate.
Game two had Southern Arkansas scoring five unearned runs, two in the second and three in the fourth, to take the 5-0 win. Union managed just three hits, two coming from Warnimont who finished with four of Union's eight hits on the day. Densaka (1-1) earned the complete game win, tossing seven innings allowing just three hits with nine strikeouts.
Preston Thompson (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs, none of which were earned, on three hits with four strikeouts.
Samuel Davis tossed three scoreless innings with five strikeouts in relief.
Up next for Union will be a conference series at home this weekend versus Shorter (Ga.).
