Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team lost 1-0 to Lee University in the rubber game of the three game series. Union dropped to 3-3 on the young season and 1-2 in Gulf South Conference play. Lee University improved to 8-2 and 2-1 in the GSC.
Union and Lee split the double-header Saturday, with Union taking game one 4-1 and lead getting game two 4-1 in nine innings.
Union had a chance to score in the bottom of the first but left the bases loaded.
Wacey Russell began the inning with a single to right and moved to second on a balk.
Zach Wylie took a free pass and
Trae Bain stuffed the sacks after being hit by pitch.
The Bulldogs threatened in the second as
Hunter Smith walked and moved to second on a sacrifice by
Parks Flowers. A
Michael Flores walk was followed by a Russell single to left field that loaded the bases.
Lee scored the lone run of the game in the top of the third inning. Josh Silver received a free pass and moved to third on a Derrick Pitts single to right field. Zacary Hawkins recorded the RBI with a groundout to second base that scored Silver.
Union left runners on the corners in the seventh.
Parks Flowers walked then stole second and third.
Caleb Warnimont also got aboard with a walk.
Flores singled to centerfield to leave Union with a chance to tie in the bottom of the ninth. Flores stole second and motored to third on a Warnimont single into left field.
Dustin Lawson (2-0) got the win while D. Pitts earned the save.
Derek Roof (2-1) took the hard luck loss for Union, tossing six innings allowing one run with two strikeouts and five hits.
Samuel Davis tossed three innings of scoreless relief for Union.
Union plays Monday at 5:00 p.m. in Henderson, Tenn. against Freed-Hardeman University.
