Union women's soccer suffers 2-1 loss at Alabama Huntsville.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Union University women's soccer dropped a match at the University of Alabama Huntsville Monday evening, 2-1. Depite being against a fellow Gulf South Conference opponent, this match did not count as a conference match. The defeat leaves Union 3-2-3 overall, while Alabama Huntsville improved to 4-5-3 on the season. Theses two teams will meet Nov. 2 at Union for a conference match.
 
The opening half of play was controlled by the Lady Bulldogs, but the Chargers got on the scoreboard first. Klaire Phillips turned the tide in favor of the Chargers launching a shot from 25 yards away into the upper left corner of the goal. Union continued to keep advantage of possession in the Alabama Huntsville end of the field. Madison Purdy played a ball to Kayleigh Patterson, who recorded her fourth goal of the season with :15 left in the first half. The shot to forge a tie 1-1 was delivered from 30 yards out and glanced off an Alabama Huntsville defender before making its way into the goal.
 
Union ripped 13 shots in the first half, five on goal. Alabama Huntsville managed only three shots in the first half, each on frame. The Chargers recorded two of their three shots in the first three minutes of the match. Union took five corners in beginning half, while Alabama Huntsville had two corners.
 
Phillips struck again at 65:34 blasting the ball from a couple steps outside of the penalty area over the outstretched hands of a leaping Emily Waggoner for a 2-1 Chargers lead. The shot from Phillips ended as the game winner. Each team took four shots in the second half.
 
Union is scheduled to return to action at Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University Friday, October 11 at 5:00 p.m.
