JACKSON, Tenn. — The Union University women's soccer team battled Carson-Newman University in a close road contest Wednesday afternoon, falling 2-1 at McCown Field.
Carson-Newman scored first in the seventh minute, but the Lady Bulldogs quickly answered. Rebekah Jackson found the back of the net in the 15th minute to tie the match at 1-1. The goal was Jackson's first of the season.
The score remained tied through halftime before Carson-Newman took a 2-1 lead in the 58th minute. Union continued pressing for the equalizer but could not find another goal before the final whistle.
The Lady Bulldogs recorded nine shots, including six on goal. Jackson led Union with two shots on goal, while Irene Arias added two shots. Paige Blackburn, Kaitlin Conway, Ebba Detulleo, Sydney Beck and Laurel Butt each recorded a shot.
Union goalkeepers Antia Lopez Rodriguez and Dehlia Placie combined for eight saves. Lopez Rodriguez recorded five saves, while Placie added three.
Next, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Clinton, Mississippi, to face Mississippi Christian University on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m.
