Union men’s soccer wins third straight with 5-3 victory at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Union University men's soccer team won their third straight match in a 5-3 victory at Delta State University. Union improved to 4-2-2 on the season and 3-1-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State dropped to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in league play.
 
Delta State scored first on a goal from Michael Boulanger, assisted by Daniel Deblaere, in the third minute of play. Union answered back with two quick goals over the next six minutes. Guilherme Reis scored in the seventh minute, while Clayton Martin added a goal in the ninth minute to give Union the 2-1 lead. Diego Santos assisted Reis' goal.
 
The lead lasted until the 31st minute when Jaxon Lambert scored on assists from Deblaere and Steven Simmons to tied the match for Delta State. Union again had a answer. With four minutes to play in the first half, Union's Seth Guiler scored on a Guilherme Celli assist to put Union back on top.
 
Union added to their 3-2 halftime lead with a goal from Alex Pratt, assisted by Luka Perkovic in the 55th minute of play. Delta State again battled back and in the 72 minute, pulled to within one goal on a score from Dablaere. With Union clinging to a 4-3 lead, Celli helped clinch the victory with a goal in the 88th minute of play to set the final at 5-3.
 
Union outshot Delta State in the match 23-16, including 13-5 in the first half. Matt Kesler was played a full 90 minutes in goal, allowing three scores, but recording three saves. Mack Pytyck and Milos Boskovic split time in goal for the Statesmen, 45 minutes each. Pytyck allowed two goals and recorded four saves, while Boskovic allowed three goals and had five saves.
 
Union's Celli led with five shots, tallying one goal and one assist.
