BUCHANAN, Tenn. – The Union University men's golf team had their streak of three straight tournament titles come to an end this week in the UT Martin Skyhawk Classic. Union finished in fourth place, just seven strokes behind winner Murray State (Ky.), second place John A. Logan CC, and third place Lipscomb.
                   
Union was in fifth place after both the first and second rounds that were played on Monday at Paris Landing Golf Club. Union shot a first round 288, second round 289 and a third round 291 for a 868 (+4) total for the tournament. Murray State and John A. Logan both fired 861 for the tournament, with Murray State winning the team title in the team playoff. Lipscomb shot an 863 for the event.
 
Union's Brett Barry, a senior Jackson native, was the top Bulldogs with a tie for 12^th place finished (216, E). Fellow Jackson native and last week's NCCAA Men's Golf Student Athlete of the Week finished T19 (218, +2). Ben Waits was T19 (218, +2), Bryce Doughty was T26 (219, +3), and Kyle Long was T40 (224, +8).
 
The event featured 14 teams and 76 golfers.
 
Up next for Union will be the NCCAA National Tournament in Panama City, Fla. October 22-24.
