CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Union University men's golf team posted a runner-up finish at the Derrall Foreman Invitational hosted by Delta State University. The 3-round event was played at the Cleveland Country Club and featured 11 teams with 56 golfers. High winds in the delta made the course tough for the two-day event.

Union's Jack-Henry Wise led all Union players with a runner-up finish, his best collegiate finish for the junior from Searcy, Arkansas. He was 2-over for the tournament, including a 2-under round in the final 18 holes Tuesday, to climb into second place. He was 2-over in both the first two rounds. He recorded 11 birdies, five coming in the final round.

Trace Robinson, the junior from Jackson, Tennessee, finished in third place at 4-over for the event. In a very consistent three rounds of golf, he was 1-over in both rounds Monday and then 2-over in the final round. He recorded eight birdies.

Andrew Westmoreland also landed in the top-10, shooting 9-over for the event. He was 2-over after the first 18 holes, then dropped some when he shot 6-over in the second round. His best round came in Tuesday's final round with a 1-over score. He recorded four birdies, but had 38 pars in the three rounds, including 15 in the final round.

Union sent 11 golfers to the tournament, filling out two teams with one individual. Union's A-team posted the runner-up finish at 32-over par, just four stroke off the winner and host, Delta State. Union was in first place after a first round 7-over par. The Bulldogs dropped to second but maintained that spot after scores of +15 and +10 in the second and third rounds. The A-team was made up of Trace Robinson (3rd), Andrew Westmoreland (10th), Lane Carr (13th), Henry Ashley (15th), and Jackson Hughey (33rd).

Carr finished at 11-over par and fired his best round early Monday with an even par first round. He was 4-over in the second, and 7-over in the third round. He posted one eagle that came on the par-5 11th in the first round, and finished the event with eight birdies.

Ashley was 12-over par with his best round of 3-over coming in the final round. He was 4-over after one round, then shot a 5-over in round two. He posted nine birdies, three in each round.

Hughey got better as the tournament progressed, finishing with a final round 4-over par. He was 8-over after the first round and added a 5-over in round two. He recorded seven birdies and added Union's second eagle of the tournament on the par-5 18th hole in the final round.

Union's B-team finished a very respectable sixth place of 11 squads. It was made up of Wise (2nd), Matthew Westmoreland (15th), Caleb Clifft (27th), Luke Stephenson (39th), and Will Brown (44th). Union's individual golfer was Brenner Sipkovsky (47th).

Matthew Westmoreland posted a quality score, finishing 12-over. He posted a 4-over in round one, the best round of 2-over in the second, and a 6-over in the final round. He recorded six birdies.

Clifft was 15-over with scores of 3-over, 8-over, and 4-over. He recorded seven birdies.

Stephenson was 20-over, but shot one of the better rounds of the event with a 1-over in the final round. He shot a 6-over in round one and 13-over in the second round. He recorded six birdies.

Brown finished 24-over par with scores of 8-over, 7-over, and 9-over in the three rounds. He recorded three birdies.

Sipkovsky finished 27-over par with scores of 9-over, 11-over, and 7-over. He had three birdies in the tournament.

This was the final event for Union golf this fall. The Bulldogs will resume play February 23-24 at the Spring Bulldog Bash in Pawleys, South Carolina.
