Union softball clipped on opening day by Spring Hill and No. 6 North Georgia

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Union University softball team played two games Friday in the Gulf Shores Invitational. Union lost 3-0 to Spring Hill College in the first game and then dropped the second game, 4-0, to No. 6 University of North Georgia.

The North Georgia game was added to today's schedule with the announcement of Saturday games being canceled due to extreme cold and windy weather schedule for Saturday. The Saturday game versus Northeastern State University will not be played. Sunday's schedule is planned to be played as scheduled.

The first game had Spring Hill scoring twice in the first, and a run in the fifth to win 3-0. Spring Hill outhit Union 10-5 in the game. Union's five hits came from five different players. Emily Claire Felder tossed all seven innings, giving up 10 hits, three runs, with a walk and two strikeouts.

The sixth-ranked team in the NFCA NCAA D2 Coaches' Poll, North Georgia, controlled game two for Union from the start. North Georgia did all of its scoring in the first innings, putting up one in the first, two in the second, and one in the third. Poss was in the circle for North Georgia and allowed just two Union hits in the game. Union's Camryn Langley and Ella Joy Bragan recorded a hit each in game two, their second hits of the day after each got a hit in game one. Riley Vaughn tossed a complete game in the loss, allowing eight hits, four runs, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Union will continue the tough early schedule Sunday with games versus No. 18 Rogers State at 10 a.m. and then No. 20 Saint Leo at 12:15 p.m.
