JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team opened the 2025 season by hosting a 12-game classic at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. The Union Classic featured six teams from Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, and Missouri.
Union played four matches, going 1-3 on the weekend in the very competitive 2-days of games. Union lost twice Friday, 3-0 to Drury University and 3-0 to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. Then split a pair of matches Saturday, falling 3-0 to Harding University and then closing out the event with a 3-1 win over Lane College.
In the win, Union led in kills 46-24 and dominated the service with a 14-6 ace advantage. Lane led in blocks, 8-5. Union added 52 digs to 34 for Lane.
Sydney Davis and
Elizabeth Gilbert led with 11 kills each.
Parker Goff added eight kills.
Ashley Pruitt, Goff, and Gilbert all recorded three aces.
Natalie Supine led with three blocks, while Pruitt led with 30 assists.
Marie Torosian and Pruitt led with 14 digs each.
For the weekend, Union was led by Gilbert with 20 total kills. Goff added 19 and Davis had 16 kills for the weekend. Pruitt led with 60 assists and six aces on the weekend. Torosian led with 48 digs, while Davis led with seven blocks. Gilbert and Supine added five blocks each.
Up next for Union will be another classic, this time on the road at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri, Friday and Saturday, September 12-13.
