JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University volleyball team hit the road for the first time in the 2025 season for three matches in the Southwest Baptist University Invitational in Bolivar, Missouri. Union went 1-1 in Friday's first day and is scheduled to play one match Saturday at 11:45 a.m. versus Harding University.
In the final match of the night, Union defeated Southwest Baptist 3-1 (25-23, 25-27, 25-21, 25-22). In a very tightly contested match, Union used 12 aces to tip the match in the favor of the Lady Bulldogs, including the match point from
Marie Torosian.
Union led in aces (12-7) and digs (65-63), while SBU led in kills (59-51), blocks (8-6), and assists (57-49).
Carleigh Charles and
Elizabeth Gilbert led Union with 15 kills each, while Charles also led with four aces.
Natalie Supine and
Sydney Davis led with three blocks each.
Ashley Pruitt led with 21 assists and Torosian led with 20 digs.
In the first match of the day, Missouri Southern State topped Union 3-1 (25-16, 25-17, 21-25, 25-11). Union led in blocks, 4-3, but trailed in kills, aces, assists, and digs.
Gilbert continued her big day with a team-high 13 kills. Supine and Pruitt led with two aces each, Gilber led with three blocks, Puritt with 24 assists, and Torosian with 12 digs.
Saturday's match versus Harding will be an early season rematch. Harding knocked off Union this past weekend 3-0 in the Union University Invitational.
