JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team succumbed to the mighty bats of #10 Young Harris College on Wednesday afternoon, falling first 14-6 and then 16-6 in a twinbill of two seven-inning contests at Fesmire Field.
The Mountain Lions launched a half-dozen homers in game one–including four in the first inning–and leaped to an 11-2 lead after three. Union hung with the visitors in the second contest, which was tied 3-3 after one and 4-4 after two, until YHC again used big innings to open a gaping lead, this one 13-5 after five frames.
Young Harris improved to 28-11, 13-2 on the road, and 6-0 against Gulf South Conference foes. Union is now15-23 after the setback.
The visitors' high-octane offense smashed three doubles and three more round-trippers in game two, and Jeremy Begora and Luke Hatcher got their second home runs of the day. All told, YHC out-hit Union 29-16 between the games and walked six more times than the Bulldogs, who ended the day without an extra-base hit.
Dyllon Barrett collected the majority of Union's seven second-game knocks with a 4-4 outing, while
Carson Chavies extended his on-base streak to 26.
Union has lost its last 11 matchups with Young Harris.
Union, riding two straight GSC series wins, will host AUM on Friday (6:00 p.m.) and Saturday (1:00 p.m. doubleheader).
