Union baseball drops their last home series against UAH

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team dropped a series at home against the University of Alabama Huntsville this weekend 0-3. Union fell to 13-28 overall on the season and 8-19 in the Gulf South Conference. UAH improved to 27-17 overall on the year and 15-9 in league play.

This weekend was senior weekend for Union baseball. They honored their six seniors in: Grayson Swanson, Trey Frierson, Britt Netterville, Jake Baker, Ryan Middleton, and Dylan Thomas.
 
In the first game on Saturday, UAH opened the game up in the second inning with a solo home run to right field. They tacked on another run in the third inning to extend their lead. Union tied the game up in the third inning when Canyon Pace scored on a single from Britt Netterville and then later Netterville scored on a single from Alec Hardy. Both teams traded three runs in the sixth which kept the game tied after six. UAH scored in the seventh and eighth posting five more runs. Union scored their last run in the bottom of the eighth posting a final score of 10-6.
 
Hardy led the team with three hits and four RBI. Sam Poindexter (3-5) started on the mound for Union throwing six and two thirds' innings allowing only three earned runs earning four strikeouts. Two other Bulldogs threw in this game.
 
In the second game on Saturday, Union's bats became quiet only scoring one run in the fourth inning. UAH scored in the second, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings posting a final score of 7-1.
 
Carson Chavies, Trey Frierson, and Hardy were the only Bulldogs with hits in this game. Lane Evans (2-7) started the game for Union throwing five innings allowing three hits and earning one strikeout. Two other Bulldogs threw in relief.
 
In the game on Sunday, UAH took control of the game early and ran out to a 9-0 lead after eight innings. Hardy broke up the shutout when he scored three runs when he doubled down the right field line. Union picked up two more runs in the bottom of the eighth as Mitch Sisk picked up two RBI on a double to center field. UAH posted two more runs in the ninth making the final score 12-5.
 
Hardy led the team with two hits and three RBI. Eli Snelson (1-2) started on the mound for Union throwing six innings allowing three runs on six hits earning three strikeouts. Four other Bulldogs threw in relief.
 
Up next for Union is a non-conference matchup at home versus the Wonderboys of the University of Arkansas Tech. This game is set to take place Tuesday, April 25 at 3 p.m.
