CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team lost the first game of the series against Lee University Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs lost on a wild pitch in the bottom of the nineth inning with a final score of 4-5. Union falls to 12-23 overall on the season and 7-15 in the Gulf South Conference. Lee University improved to 22-17 overall on this year's campaign and 11-11 in league play.
Lee climbed into an early lead in the first three innings as they plated four runs, making it 4-0 after three innings of play. Union got on the board in the fourth inning as
Mitch Sisk scored on a single from
Grayson Swanson. Union picked up three more runs in the sixth inning and tied the game at four all. Lee walked it off in the bottom of the nineth as their Malachi Cloud scored on a wild pitch.
Five Bulldog's had two hit performances in this game.
Trey Frierson and Swanson led the team in RBI.
Sam Poindexter started on the mound for Union throwing eight innings allowing three earned runs on eight hits, earning four strikeouts.
Ryan Evans (4-4) got the loss throwing two thirds of an inning allowing one run on one hit.
Up next for Union is the last two games of the series. The first game of the doubleheader is set to take place Saturday, April 15 at 12:00 p.m.
