CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team split with Lee in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. Union won the first game 6-5 and lost the second game 10-2. Union moved to 13-24 overall on the season and 8-16 in the Gulf South Conference. Lee moved to 23-18 on this year's campaign and 12-12 in league play.
In the first game, Union jumped out to an early lead in the second inning when
Blake Barrett hit a two-run home run in the second inning. Lee scored a run of their own in the fourth inning. Union picked up a pair of runs in the fifth when Barrett reached on an error scoring
Mitch Sisk and
Carson Chavies. They scored again in the seventh when
Grayson Swanson scored on a single from
Caden Cutrell. Lee rallied in the eighth scoring four tying the game at five. Union scored their last run in the ninth as
Trey Frierson singled scoring
Colby Davis.
Alec Hardy, Cutrell, and Frierson led Union with three hits.
Dylan Thomas (2-0) earned the win for Union throwing two thirds of an inning allowing one hit.
Ryan Evans (1) Earned his first save of the season throwing one inning not allowing a hit. Two other Bulldogs threw in this game.
In the second game, Lee got their bats going early and scored five in the first. Swanson got Union on the board in the second when he homered in the second. Lee picked up three more runs in the second and third inning. Union scored their last run in the fourth inning when
Grant Ross singled and scored Sisk. Lee scratched two more runs late in the game to make the final score 10-2.
Grant Ross led Union with two hits in this game.
Jack Rasmussen (0-1) started on the mound for Union throwing one and two thirds' innings allowing seven runs on six hits earning one strikeout. Three other Bulldogs threw in relief.
Up next for Union is a non-conference matchup at home against Harding University. This game is set to take place Tuesday, April 18 at 6:00 p.m.
