BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Union University women's basketball team will be playing the University of West Florida Saturday at 2:15 p.m. in the 2023 Gulf South Conference Championships at the Pete Hanna Center on the campus of Samford University. Union is the 2-seed, while West Florida is the 3-seed.

Union and West Florida split the two regular season games. West Florida defeated Union 72-69 back on December 9 in Pensacola, while Union won its home game versus West Florida 88-62 on February2. 

Union finished tied for first with Lee and earned a share of the GSC Regular Season Title. It is the sixth straight season and ninth overall for Union to either win or share the GSC Regular Season Title (shared 2020 regular season title with Lee). It was also Union's 36th regular season conference title in program history.

Union is riding an 13-game winning streak, the longest active streak in the GSC. Union's last loss was the home overtime loss to Lee back to January 7.

Union has played in all nine GSC Tournaments since becoming postseason eligible in 2014-15. Union is now 8-1 in GSC Quarterfinal games.

Union is currently 19-3 in GSC Tournament games. This is Union's eighth appearance in the GSC Semifinals. Union is 6-1 in the previous seven trips to the semifinals.

Union has advanced to the GSC Tournament Title game six times with a 5-1 record in title games. Union has won three straight GSC Tournament Titles.

Union is 2-0 versus West Florida when meeting in the GSC Tournament (Union def. UWF in 2018 title game, 66-54; Union def. UWF in 2021 quarterfinals, 69-46)

Union is No. 14 in the WBCA Coaches' Preseason Poll and No. 25 in the D2SIDA Media Poll. Union is also ranked No. 3 in the latest NCAA D2 South Region Rankings. The next set of region rankings will be the selection show, Sunday night, March 5 at 9:30 p.m. central on NCAA.com.

Nine different Lady Bulldogs have hit at least one 3-pointer in a game, while eight are in double figures. Lauren West leads Union with 55 made 3-pointers, while Bethany Dillard has 53 and Leah Church is at 43.

Union's Shanique Lucas was named first team All-GSC for the second time in her career. Samariah Thompson was named second team All-GSC this season.

Union has several players inching closer to career milestones. Leah Cauble is 16 points away from 500 and Leach Church is five points away from 500. Shanique Lucas is 24 points away from 1,500 and one rebound away from 500. Lauren West just recently passed 500 career points.
