CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Union University baseball team lost 2-1 at Delta State University Friday night in the series opener. Union dropped to 8-16 overall and 4-9 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State improved to 11-12 on the season and 6-4 in league play.Â
Sam Poindexter's complete game gem was spoiled by a two-out rally in the ninth by DSU. Poindexter (3-3) was near perfect through eight innings, allowing two hits and no runs with five strikeouts and three walks. However, in the ninth with two outs and a runner on first. DSU got a single, driving in the tying run, while the batter moved to second on a error. After an intentional walk, a hit drove in the winning run.Â
Union scored its run in the fifth when
Britt Netterville drove in
Blake Barrett with a single. Union out hit Delta State 8-4 in the game. Seven different Bulldogs got a hit with
Alec Hardy getting two hits.Â
The two teams will close the series Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
