Union baseball defeats crosstown foe Lane College

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team defeated crosstown foe Lane College 9-4 Wednesday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Union improved to 4-4 overall on the season as Lane college dropped to 0-8.
 
Union got the bats going early as freshmen Will Allen Smith opened up the second inning with a three-run home run to left field. Both teams traded a run in the third, then the freshmen came up big again in the fourth inning as he his second home run of the game which scored Canyon Pace. Grayson Swanson joined the club this game as he also homered in the fourth scoring Netterville. Union increased its lead to eight runs after the fourth inning. The Bulldogs held Lane to only three runs in the back half of the game winning with a final score of 9-4.

Three Bulldogs in Swanson, Pace, and Smith had multi-hit performance. W.A. Smith Led Union with five RBI. Those two home runs were his first and second career collegiate home runs.
 
Seven Bulldogs shared the mound in this afternoon's win. AJ Zeak got the start throwing three innings earning two strikeouts and giving up one run on two hits. Ryan Evans got the win throwing two innings not giving up hit.
 
Up next for Union is its first conference series of the season. The Bulldogs will head to Rome, Georgia to take on the Hawks of Shorter University. The first game of the season is set to take place Friday, February 17 at 11:00 am.
