Carrollton, Ga. – The Union women's basketball defeated the University of West Georgia on the road Wednesday night 82-64. The Lady Bulldogs move to 14-3 overall on the season, and 12-3 in the Gulf South Conference. West Georgia falls to 7-10 overall and 6-8 in league play

In the first half, Union scored first off of a jumper in the paint by
Shanique Lucas. Three minutes into the West Georgia took their only lead of the game when Peace Okeke drive in for a layup. The lady Bulldogs would start to pull away as they finished the first quarter with a 12 point lead. Union kept their pace in the second quarter going into the locker room for halftime with a lead of nine. Union outshot West Georgia in the first half 47 percent to 43 percent from the field.
Union steadily increased their lead in the second half and was up by 26 in the fourth quarter, which was the biggest lead of the game. West Georgia chipped away at the lead, but there was not enough time resulting in the final score of 82-64.
Union outshot West Georgia 48 percent to 45 percent from the field. West Georgia shot better from beyond the arc with their 40 percent to Union's 35.
Samariah Thompson led the charge for the Lady Bulldogs scoring 19 points. She went 8-9 from the field and a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc. UWG's Stephanie Torres led her team scoring 13 points. She went 4-7 from the field, and 3-6 from beyond the arc.
Up next for Union is a conference matchup at home against Christian Brothers University. This game is set to take place Thursday, January 26 at 5:30 p.m.
