CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Union University women's basketball team won at Delta State University Thursday night 78-41. Union, ranked No. 24 in the WBCA poll, improved to 12-3 overall and 10-3 in the Gulf South Conference. The Lady Statesmen fell to 7-10 overall and 6-7 in the GSC.
Union opened the game with a 10-3 run in the first five minutes and led by 12 after the first quarter. During the second quarter Union shot lights out shooting 76 percent from the field (13-17) and 75 percent from beyond the arc (6-8). Heading into the locker room for halftime Union had a 34 point lead over DSU, 51-17.
Union coasted in the second half. During the fourth quarter, Union had its largest lead of the game of 46.
Union outshot Delta State 46 percent from the field, 35 percent from long range, and 91 percent from the free throw line. Delta State shot to 29 percent from the field, and 81 percent from the charity stripe. The Lady Statesmen did not make a 3-pointer.
Shanique Lucas led the Lady Bulldogs scoring 18 points and grabbing two rebounds in only 24 minutes of work. Camryn Davis from DSU led the Lady Statesmen with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Up next for Union is a GSC matchup on the road against Mississippi College. This game is set to take place Saturday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m.
