Union softball takes weekend series after 3-2 win over Delta State

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team earned a 3-2 victory over Delta State University Sunday at Fesmire Field. Union improved to 13-19 overall and 7-11 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State dropped to 18-15 on the season and 8-8 in league play. 
The win for Union clinched the series for the Lady Bulldogs. Union and Delta split the Saturday doubleheader with Union winning 5-2 in game one and DSU taking game two, 7-3. 
Union outhit Delta State 8-7 in the game but used two home runs to take care of the total offense. A solo home run from Fallon Groves in the fourth gave Union a 1-0 lead. It was her second home run of the weekend. Macey Neal continued her solid weekend with a 2-run home run in the fifth to put Union up 3-0. Union ended up needing all three runs as Delta State rallied with a run in the sixth and one in the seventh. 
Union's Reese Taylor (5-5) earned the win with six innings of work, allowing two runs, one earned on seven hits with four strikeouts and zero walks. Laken DiStefano (3) earned the save, getting the final three outs after entering the game with two runners one in the seventh. She struck out the side to seal the win, leaving the tying run at third base. This was after a season high 11 strikeouts in a complete game win Saturday for DiStefano. 
Bryleigh Carneal led Union with two hits, while six other Lady Bulldogs had one hit each. 
Up next for Union will be a doubleheader with Trevecca Nazarene at home, April 6 at 2 p.m.
