MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University softball team posted a doubleheader split at Christian Brothers University Saturday afternoon. Christian Brothers won the first game 6-2, then Union took the second game 3-0. Union moved to 11-17 overall and 5-9 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers moved to 9-20 on the season and 3-11 in league play.Â
Union's
Laken DiStefano (2-5) dominated game two from the circle, tossing a shutout while allowing only one hit. She struck out seven hitters with three walks. The lone CBU hit came in the fourth inning. Union pounded out 10 hits in the game, scoring a run in the third and two in the fourth.
Baylee Stewart had the RBI single in the third.
Grace White and
Fallon Groves each had RBI doubles in the fourth.
Bryleigh Carneal,
Macey Neal, and White led with two hits.Â
In game one, CBU scored two in the first and two in the fourth, then added single runs in the fifth and sixth. Union also got single runs in the fifth and sixth. Union out hit CBU 9-8 in the game. Stewart had an RBI single in the fifth, and Mackenzie David added a solo home run for Union in the sixth. David led as the only Union player with more than one hit (2). Seven other Lady Bulldogs had one hit each.
Reese Taylor (4-5) took the loss and
Olivia Baker tossed six innings in relief.Â
Union will look to take the series in game three Sunday at 1 p.m. at CBU.Â
