Union baseball sweeps first home series of the year

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball posted a pair of victories Saturday afternoon against West Liberty University at Fesmire Field. These two wins completed the four game series sweep over the Hilltoppers as the Bulldogs won the first two games of the series just Friday. Union's bats came alive once again today, winning the first game 8-6 and the second game 5-2. Union improved to 3-4 on the season, while West Liberty dropped to 0-4.
 
In the first game Union had another stellar starting pitcher performance as Luke Williamson threw five innings and had 10 k's. Williamson allowed three hits, two runs, and gave up four free bases. Jack Rasmussen (1-0) was credited with the win as he threw 2.1 innings having two strikeouts. Rasmussen allowed three hits, two runs, and five walks. Ryan Middleton was awarded the save as he pitched 1.2 innings. Middleton finished with one strike-out and allowed two hits, two runs, and one free base. Offensive, Dorian Berry and Josh Bozoian led the team with two hits, both of them being doubles. Britt Netterville hit his first homer of the season. Bozoian also led the team with two RBI.
 
In game two AJ Zeak a transfer from Anne Arundel CC started on the mound for the Bulldogs. He tossed five innings earning four strikeouts. He allowed three hits, two runs, and four walks. Jake Jewell (1-0) came to pitch in relief he threw 2.0 innings not allowing a hit or a run, but gave up four free bases. Offensive, Grayson Swanson led Union with two hits. Slater Schield, Billy Beckham, and Swanson all had one RBI.
 
Up next for Union is the first conference series of the year. The Bulldogs will open up conference play at home versus the nationally ranked Flames of Lee University. The first game of the series will be Saturday, February 19 at 1:00 p.m.
