No. 4/7 Union women win big over MC to open GSC play

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball team posted a 98-43 win over Mississippi College Thursday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium/David Blackstock court. Union, ranked No. 4 and No. 7 respectively by the WBCA and D2SIDA Media national polls, improved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College dropped to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in league play. 
The game started slowly with Union leading just 8-3 over the first 6:15 of the first quarter. However, Union exploded to close the quarter with a 20-4 run to lead 28-7 at the end of one. Union's press continued to dominate as Union added 26 more points, including a 17-0 run, in the second quarter to lead 54-16 at the break. 
Union shot 64 percent from the field in the first half, including 56 percent (5-9) from 3-point range in the first half. 
Union added 22 points in both the third quarter and fourth quarter to coast to the win. 
Leah Cauble led Union with 18 points including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Bethany Dillard was 5-of-6 from long range for her 15 points. Ally Winnen added 14 points and Jordan Little added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Lauren West scored 11 points including three 3-pointers. The Lady Bulldogs shot 56 percent from the field, 50 percent (17-34) from 3-point range, and 71 percent (15-21) from the free throw line. 
Union forced 23 turnovers, scoring 31 points off those turnovers. Union outrebounded the Lady Choctaws 39-23. 
Mississippi College was led by Kyiah Julian with 14 points and Keller Bigham with five points. MC shot 29 percent from the field, 10 percent (1-10) from long range, and 70 percent (14-20) from the charity stripe. 
Up next for Union will be another home GSC matchup Saturday, November 19 at 2 p.m. versus Delta State University.
