JACKSON, Tenn. - The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, has been announced and included two Union University student-athletes.
Gavin Scott and
William Valencia were named first-team academic all-district.Â
Scott, a 5-foot-11 junior midfielder from Ayr, Scotland, tied for Union's team lead with four goals, including a team-high two game-winning goals. He led with three assists and was second with 16 shots. He was named Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series Tournament Most Outstanding Player and All-Tournament.
Valencia, a 5-foot-10 senior forward from Madrid, Spain, tied for Union's team lead with four goals and was second with two assists. He led the team with 20 shots. He was named GSC SCS All-Tournament.
Scott and Valencia helped lead Union to a record-setting year, claiming the GSC SCS Tournament Title. It was the first conference championship for Union of any kind in the history of the program. Union posted a 6-1 record in the COVID shortened spring season and finished the year ranked No. 10 in the national poll.
CoSIDA recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July. The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.Â
