JACKSON, Tenn. - Tonight's heated match up between Union and Ouachita Baptist ended in a 2-2 draw.
At a glance, this appears to be a well-balanced match with equal points for each side, upon further review you can see that the Tiger narrowly escaped defeat.
Union was quick to score, setting the tone early in the 9
th minute.
Lawson Harvey crossed in a ball over the heads of Tiger defense for
Ostian Bowen to crush the ball into the back of the net. Bowen's first goal of the season rippled through the complex, marking his return to the Bulldog roster.
Mistakes by the Bulldog back line would result in the equalizer in the 24
th minute. Andrew Castellanos would rip a shot that would put the Tigers on the scoreboard.
However, they did not let the half end in a draw.
Ashanie Kennedy would find the back of the net from a shot just outside the 18-yard box, putting Union back ahead in the 32
nd minute.
Two yellow cards were issued in the first half, with
Thad McCanse and
Luca Pereira both receiving one a piece.
The second half opened to tons of Tiger pressure down the final third of the field. Of their 24 total shots, 16 came from the second half. The pressure persisted and eventually, Union would concede. Â
A handball inside the box would result in a penalty kick for the Tigers. Alexis Murillo would be the man of the hour for Ouachita Baptist, digging them out of the hole for a 2-2 draw in the 78
th minute.
Other yellow cards on the night would be issued to Tigers head coach and #12 Nathan Buwemi.
In goal,
Patrick Schott would tally up all 90 minutes with 7 saves on the night providing a consistent presence, keeping Union locked in the game.
Overall, Ouachita out shot Union 24 to 9 with 9 shots on target.
The Bulldogs will return to the Smith Memorial Complex on Saturday 9/6 for a non-conference match up against Harding University at 7:30 p.m.
