JACKSON, Tenn. - Tonight, at the Smith Memorial Soccer Complex, the Bulldogs let up their 1-0 lead in the 88
th minute of the match.
Overall, the matchup was well balanced. The Bisons only outshot the Bulldogs 13-14 with 8 of those being on target. The score at the half reflected this well, going into the second half with a 0-0 score.
The fouls also reflected the even nature of the game, with both teams collecting 13 a piece.
Yellow cards flew throughout the match, with Union collecting 2,
Wesley Mhlanga and
Lawson Harvey, and Harding collecting 4 on the night, Cian Halpin, Robert Garcia Gomez, Jon Ireland (HC), and Gabriel Otero (Assistant Coach).
Union could not find the back of the net until the second half.
Solomon Pela subbed in for Union and quickly found his stride. After a shot on goal that was saved by Harding GK Rinner Stewart, Pela sought payback.
Ashanie Kennedy found Pela on the run, who fired a missile from the corner of the 18-yard box into the upper right corner of the goal mouth. The shot mirrored the shot on goal from just minutes beforehand.
Union took the lead, and the momentum. However, they could not hold the lead until the end of the match.
Jimmy Tuyishme got through the Union's defensive line to find himself one on one with
Patrick Schott. Tuyishme won the battle, putting Harding on the scoreboard and tying up the game.
That would be the last goal on the night, leaving the final score at 1-1.
In goal, both keepers tallied a full game with Schott collecting 7 saves and Stewart collecting 5 saves.
Union will go on the road to play Missouri S&T in Rolla, Missouri. Tune in on Flo Sports or follow along at uuathletics.com/coverage.
