Before Union
Mhlanga transferred to Union from the University of Mount Olive where he played two seasons of soccer. He helped lead his team to championships in both seasons. Mhlanga prepped at Jeppe Boys High School where he played four years of soccer. He also played five years of Academy Soccer for Black Aces FC and Joburg City FC. He won two high school championships and advanced to the club team tournament quarterfinals. Mhlanga earned Full Colours (highest player award), Team Captain, and Sports Team of the Year. He was the most capped player in high school with 62 caps. He was also named Most Improved club player with the U17 team. Off the field, Mhlanga earned Technology Highest Achiever in 2018.
