JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team completed the series sweep over Christian Brothers University with a 12-5 victory Sunday afternoon. Union improved to 7-27 on the season and 6-20 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers dropped to 7-26 overall and 7-21 in league play.
Union swept the Saturday double-header, winning 6-4 in eight innings in game one and then taking game two, 9-8.
The game was scoreless for the first three innings and Union was still looking for its first hit of the game. CBU scored five runs in the top of the fourth to take control. Union responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to get back into the game. The big hit in the inning was an RBI double from
Taylor Manley.
Union then added four runs in the fifth to take the lead.
Sarah Smith cleared the bases with a 3-RBI triple then Morris gave Union the lead on a sacrifice fly.
Six runs for Union in the bottom of the sixth put the game away.
Harley Bartholomew drove in the first two runs with a single. Morris walked with the bases loaded to drive in the third run. Mackenzie David then hit the second bases clearing triple for Union in the game.
Union scored 12 unanswered runs in the game to win 12-5. Smith led Union with two hits, while six other Union players had one hit each. David and Smith led with three RBI each. Morris started the game, going 3.1 innings. Manley (2-9) tossed the final 3.2 innings, allowing no runs and earning the win.
Up next for Union will be the final GSC series of the year, a road series at Shorter University, April 24-25.
