JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team won the series deciding game Sunday with in-state opponent Christian Brothers University. The final score was12-2 after a 10-run mercy rule in the eighth. With the win the Bulldogs move to 13-20 overall and 11-19 in the GSC. The Buccaneers move to 5-27 overall, and 3-26 in the GSC.
The Bulldogs scored two runs in the top of the second thanks to an
Austin Zeitler RBI double, and a
Ryan Lee RBI single. Union added four more runs in the fourth with a
Trey Frierson two RBI single, and a
Patrick Music two RBI double. The Bulldog offense did not slow down as they added six more runs in the eighth with a
Britt Netterville RBI double, a
Josh Bozoian RBI triple, an
Austin Zeitler RBI triple, a
Ryan Lee two RBI home run, and a
John Plattner walk off hit that scored
Ben Smith. The Bulldogs were led by
John Plattner who went 1-1 with the winning RBI.
Ryan Lee went 2-4 with three RBI,
Trey Frierson went 1-5 with two RBI,
Patrick Music went 3-5 with two RBI,
Austin Zeitler went 2-5 with two RBI,
Britt Netterville went 2-4 with one RBI,
Josh Bozoian went 3-5 with one RBI. On the mound,
Sam Poindexter got the win with 2.1 innings pitched giving up zero earned runs.
Sam McMillin started, pitching a solid 4.2 innings giving up zero earned runs, only one hit, and six strikeouts.
Next up for the Bulldogs is a road GSC series against Shorter University, first pitch is set for Friday, April 23 at 12 p.m. central.
