Before Union
Schield prepped at Independence High School where he played four years of baseball. He also spent 12 years playing club baseball. Schield helped lead his high school team to the District 11 title, while also leading his summer team to the Southeast PBR Summer Champion. He was named all-county, TBCA All-Region, and was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Schield hit .330 as a junior, including .433 during the district and state tournaments. In the canceled senior season, he was hitting .500 with five stolen bases. Off the field, Schield was the top of his class as a freshman, graduate with Williamson County Honors, Tennessee Diploma with Distinction, and Tennessee Diploma with Honors.
