JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team lost three games this weekend to Auburn University Montgomery. Auburn Montgomery swept the Saturday double-header 12-1 and 1-0, then took game three 11-0. Union dropped to 2-15 on the season and 1-8 in the Gulf South Conference. AUM improved to 12-0 overall and 6-0 in league play.
AUM extended its overall winning streak to 19 games dating back to last season.
Union managed just one run in the series. It came in the third inning of game one, a solo home run from
Madisen Blackwell. Sara Smith had the only other hit for Union in the game.
In game two, Union's
Gabby Morris tossed a gem of a game in game two, allowing just two hits and one run. However, despite the great performance, it wasn't enough as Union was shutout on just three hits by Bailie Barns of AUM. The only run allowed was a solo home run by Gia Martin of AUM in the second inning.
Alyssa Ward,
Grace White, and Smith each had one hit in the loss.
AUM scored three runs in the first and that score held until the top of the fifth when the Warhawks scored eight run, including a grand slam from Abby Kreuger. Union had just two hits, both doubles, one each from Smith and Smantha McDaniel.
Up next for Union will be a road GSC series at Valdosta State, March 13-14.
