SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Union University women's basketball team lost to Drury University 73-56 in the Drury Thanksgiving Classic. Union, ranked No. 16/24, dropped to 3-2 on the season, while Drury, ranked No. 3 in both national polls, improved to 8-1.
It was a huge first quarter for Drury that proved to be the different. Drury outscored Union 29-16 in the first frame. The rest of the game was 44-40, in favor of Drury.Â
Drury forced 28 turnovers in the game, scoring 25 points off of those Union miscues.Â
Union shot a better field goal percentage in the game, 41 percent to 39 percent. Drury however, shot 70 times in the game to just 44 attempts by Union. Union finished 4-of-12 from 3-point range for 33 percent.
Union never led in the game and trailed by as many as 22 points (54-32) in the third quarter.
Union's two losses this year have come on the road, and both have come to WBCA top-11 teams.Â
The bright spot in the game was Union freshman
Bailey Augustine posting a career high 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and six-of-six shooting from the free throw line.Â
Shanigue Lucas and
Jaelencia Williams each added 10 points.Â
Drury was led by Paige Robinson with 20 points including four 3-pointers. Findley and Richards scored 15 and 14 points respectively.Â
Up next for Union will be a non-conference matchup, Monday, November 29 at home versus Brescia at 5:30 p.m.
