Clinton, Miss. - The Union University men's basketball team posted a 92-58 win at Mississippi College Saturday night. Union improved to 12-6 overall and 6-4 in the Gulf South Conference. Mississippi College dropped to 7-9 on the season and 3-7 in league play.
Early on in the game it was a back and forth affair with both teams trading baskets. This trend would continue as the game would come to a tie at the 12:05 minute mark at 17-17. From there, Union would click on all cylinders and grow the lead to its greatest margin of 20 at 47-27 with only 1:43 left thanks to a three pointer from Union freshman
Ousmane Gueye. The first half would conclude at a score of 47-33.
In the second half, things would only get better for Union, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
Tyree Boykin would start the second half with a three pointer, and Union would carry on from there. Union would push the game to its largest lead of 34 with a layup by
Bryson Butler with only 38 seconds remaining. It would be the last basket of the game for either team and the final score would end at 92-58.
Union was led by Boykin with an astounding 29 point game. Boykin added three rebounds and three assists as well.
Payton Stovall would also add 16 points, four rebounds, and one assist.
Cooper Meadows added 12 points, and
Terrandus Smith added 11.
Ousmane Gueye added a lot to the game tonight and was only two points away from a double-double. Ousmane had eight points and 11 rebounds. Union shot 47 percent from the field, 55 percent (16-29) from 3-point range, and 66 percent (6-9) from the free throw line. Union out rebounded MC 48-33.
