Baseball drops double header to No. 10 West Florida

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team drops double header to No. 10 University of West Florida 9-1 in the first game and 2-0 in the second game on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs dropped to 4-17 in the Gulf South Conference and 10-25 on the season. The Argonauts improved to 17-4 in conference play and 27-11 on the season. 

The Argonauts took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. A West Florida single to center field scored two more runs in the fifth inning to extend the lead 5-0. The Argonauts finished the game by scoring one run each in the seventh, eighth and ninth inning. 

Ryan Mets (2-3) took the loss for the Bulldogs after tossing five innings, giving up five runs off of four hits with three strikeouts and six balls. Spencer Woods pitched four innings in relief giving up four runs off of six hits with two strikeouts. 

West Florida scored the only two runs of the second game in the second inning. 

Josh Frantz led with two hits for Union. Scott Shearer (1-4) tossed a complete game giving up two runs off of five hits with three walks and one strikeout. 

Up next for Union is the University of Arkansas at Monticello in Monticello, Arkansas on Tuesday, April 9 at 2 p.m.
