MONTICELLO, Ark. - The Union University baseball team posted a 9-0 shutout victory at the University of Arkansas-Monticello. Union improved to 10-26 overall, while Arkansas-Monticello dropped to 24-9 on the season.
This marked Union's fourth win of the season over a ranked team, moving the Bulldogs' record versus ranked opponents to 4-5 overall.
Caleb DeMarigny opened the scoring with a solo home run to left field in the top of the first. The scored stayed 1-0 until the fourth when Union tacked on four more runs. A bases loaded walk to
Tyler Thomas starting the big inning, followed by a bases clearing double form
Zane Phillips. Phillips then scored on a passed ball. Union added two more runs in the sixth on RBI hits from Thomas and
Dacoda Stone. A
Josh Bozoian RBI double in the ninth drove in the ninth run for the Bulldogs.
Nine runs were more than enough for the four Union pitchers used in the game.
Logan Portis started the game and went three innings, giving up one hit with a walk and a strikeout.
Kory Pollard (1-1) tossed the next three innings, allowing three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Cooper Bullough tossed two innings with three hits and three strikeouts, while
Walker Adkisson tossed a hit-less ninth with a strikeout and a walk.
Union out-hit UAM 9-7 in the game, led by Bozoian and Thomas with two hits each. Phillips and Thomas led with three and two RBI respectively.
Up next for Union will be a road GSC series at Alabama-Huntsville. Due to in-coming rain, the series has been moved up to a double-header Friday at noon, followed by a single game Saturday at 11 a.m.
