JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team swept University of Illinois-Springfield in a double-header on Thursday afternoon. Union improved to 15-11, and UIS dropped to 10-10.
In the second game, Kaitlyn Kelley hit a grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game for Union, 9-6. In the second inning, UIS scored three runs. Sarah Smith scored off a triple by Gabby Morris, and Morris scored off a Parker Davis single. In the third inning, the Prairie Stars added two more runs, and Kaitlyn Kelley scored off a Haley Barnette single.In the fourth inning, Kelley doubled to center field to bring in Ashten Petty and Haley Bartholomew. In the sixth, UIS scored one run. In the bottom of seventh, three players to fill up the bases for Kelley to hit a grand slam.Â
Taylor Manley earned the win for Union, tossing four innings and giving up two hits with one walk. Parker Davis tossed three innings and gave up six hits with three walks. Barnette led Union with three hits, and Kelley had two hits with six RBI.Â
The first game of the series Union won 7-4. In the second inning, the Prairie Stars scored one run, and the Lady Bulldogs scored four runs. In the fourth inning, Union added one run. In the fifth inning, UIS scored three runs, and the Lady Bulldogs scored two runs. The final score was 7-4.Â
 Morris took the win, tossing seven innings and giving up nine hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Union was led by Morris with three hits and two RBI. Petty and Smith both had two hits for Union.Â
Next up for Union is a home Gulf South Conference series against the University of Montevallo on March 16-17.Â
