The Union University softball team ended the Charger Chillout with a win on Sunday against Miles College and two losses on Saturday to West Liberty University and No. 12, University of Illinois-Springfield.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated Miles College 10-2 on Sunday. In the first inning, Kaitlyn Kelley and Sarah Smith scored off a homer to left field by Haley Barnette. Miles College scored their only two runs in the second and third innings. In the third, Ashten Petty doubled down the left field line, bringing in Barnette. Petty scored off on error, to bring the score to 5-2. In the fourth inning, Molly McKelvey scored off a double from Smith, and Alyssa Ward scored on a wild pitch. In the sixth inning, Kristen Pickens scored off a single from Ward. Abbie Page and Ward added the final two runs in the sixth.
Taylor Griffith earned the win, tossing 2.1 innings allowing two hits with one strikeout and two walks. Gabby Morris tossed for 3.2 innings allowing only two hits with five strikeouts. Smith and Kelley both had two hits, while five other Lady Bulldogs had one hit.
In Saturday's loss to West Liberty(1-8), Ward led the team with three hits, and Page had two. Morris took the loss for Union, tossing two innings allowing three hits with four strikeouts and four walks. Taylor Manley tossed for four innings, allowing six hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
In the game against No. 12 ranked University of Illinois-Springfield (4-5), Ward and Kelley led the team with three hits, and Pickens had two. Parker Davis took the loss, tossing six innings allowing eight hits with two strikeouts and zero walks.
Up next for Union, is the Columbus State University Classic at Columbus State on Saturday, February 16th through Sunday, February 17th.
