JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball team posted a 70-45 win over Lane College Thursday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union improved to 7-2 on the season while Lane fell to 0-6.
After a slow start, Union opened the scoring with a pair of free throws by
Miracle Gray with 8:23 on the clock. Union led 28-15 at the half. In the first half, Union had 14 of their 28 points come from free throws.
The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Dragons 21-11 in the third quarter. Lane came out strong in the fourth quarter, scoring 19 points in the final ten minutes. Union again scored 21 points and set the final score 70-45.
Union was led by
Jaelencia Williams with 19 points. The transfer recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds.
Jacie Higgins added 11 points,
Jada Smith and
Caroline Hogue each scored nine points. Higgins recorded nine rebounds while Hogue added eight.
Emily Beard led with five assists. Union shot 38 percent from the field, 39 percent (5-13) from long range, and 66 percent (25-38) from the free-throw line.Â
Lane was led by Alexis Harris with 12 points and Ra'keta Shelton with nine points. The Lady Dragons shot 25 percent from the field, 7 percent (1-14) from 3-point range, and 52 percent (12-23) from the free-throw line.Â
Up next for Union will be a road matchup against Central State University Saturday, December 7, and 4:30 p.m.
